When General George Marshall learns that the fourth brother, James, is with the 101st Airborne Division somewhere in Normandy, he orders that he be brought home.Ĭaptain John Miller (Tom Hanks) leads his men (including Edwards Burns, Giovanni Ribisi and Vin Diesel) behind enemy lines to find James Ryan (Matt Damon). Ryan, is to receive all three of the grave telegrams on the same day. Earlier in New Guinea, a third brother is killed in action.
Amidst the fighting, two brothers are killed in action. Seen through the eyes of a squad of US soldiers, the story begins with World Word II's historic D-Day invasion, then moves beyond the beach as the men embark on a dangerous special mission.
